If Disneyland had Deadland, it would probably look like this. Folks build elaborate altars to their family members or heros to honor them. It kind of becomes this bright colorful celebration of theirs lives.

MOCA- Art in the Streets
Well, here are some photos from the latest show at MOCA about street art. I didnt like it too much. There was an faux vibe to the whole show... I felt like I was in Disneyland or something. How do you recreate the gritty streets at a contemporary museum? Hmmmm..... do you build animatronic taggers like the picture here below?
It was all very eye-catching and pretty but just eye-candy for me personally...
I happened to go for the closing party and missed it...but they had all these mobile gardens on display. I guess the point is that you can bike your garden around to different places. Biking+gardens=cute and trendy but not super practical. Am I being too closed-minded?

David Smith: Cubes and Anarchy
This show features Smith's works from the 1930's to his death in 1965. Though he created sculptures, he thought of himself as a painter. The exhibit was designed by an architect, Brenda Levin. I loved the translucent scrims that separated the spaces yet let you see through to the other sculptures and people.

Susanne Vielmetter Los Angeles Projects
Steve Roden is not only a visual artist, he's also a sound artist. However the two are interrelated. His paintings and drawings are translations of his soundworks according to a system that he has invented for himself. Check out his website to see past works and hear some of his sound pieces.
These works are at Susanne Vielmetter Los Angeles until April 23, 2011.

Volta: Erika Harrsch
Erika Harrsch created this clear booth with fluttering paper butterflies. Visitors could jump in there for a chance to catch the butterfly with the golden ticket. So I gave it a try...and found it! I totally felt like Charlie from "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" (the original version). For my prize, I got one of four limited edition prints of one of her butterflies. Thanks Erika!
